Frequently asked questions
Can you install a metal roof over my existing shingles?
Often, yes. Florida code allows a new roof over one existing layer of shingles when the decking is sound, and your Roofing Consultant confirms that at the visit. Either way, the install method never decides the price: DefenderRoof® is the same price as our Shield Roof™ shingle system on the same house.
How long does the metal roof warranty run?
Up to 50 years on the material, which is among the strongest coverage available. For comparison, a shingle roof in this climate is a fifteen to twenty year decision, so metal is usually the last roof the house needs.
Will a metal roof change my insurance premium?
It can. Many carriers price wind mitigation features into the premium, and metal panels are fastened through to the deck as a continuous system rather than laid in courses. It is worth asking your carrier what a metal roof does to your number before you decide.
Does metal hold up close to the ocean?
It depends how close. Within roughly 1,500 feet of salt water, Galvalume substrate and paint warranties are void. That is the mill position, not our opinion, so on homes inside that line we quote aluminium instead rather than install a roof whose warranty is void on day one.
